Who Are We
Joy Accounting is located in Chesterland, Ohio at the intersection of Route 306 and Mulberry. We provide local businesses, individuals, estates and trusts with tax and accounting services. We also host small group Do-it-Yourself tax workshops and small group financial literacy workshops throughout the year.
Our Story
After working in the accounting industry for over 25 years I knew I needed a quality change from what was considered the “norm” for accounting. One day in the summer of 2019, I was having lunch with a friend when I heard myself tell her that there was no joy in accounting. That was it. I knew I needed to change that and bring joy to the world of accounting. But I wasn’t sure how. After some reflection and real soul searching, I came out on the other side knowing it would take balanced relationships, a safe space where clients could feel free to be open, and human connectedness. It took me a little while to figure out that to bring joy to accounting, I simply need to be joy.
Joy doesn’t mean just being happy. Joy means being in the present moment, being true to who we are, and honoring where we at the moment. We believe that accounting can be fun, creative, and an expression of oneself.
Balanced Relationships – we believe that all healthy relationships need to be balanced. Our side of the equation is to provide a service or a finished product that is useful to our clients. We hope that our clients see value in what we do and in appreciation, pay their invoice on time, refer us to friends, and fill out online reviews.
A Safe Space – at Joy Accounting it is important to us that clients feel that they are in a safe place to say what’s on their minds and ask questions. There is no judgment and there are no stupid questions because we get it: you don’t know what you don’t know. This is what we do every day. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t know either!
Human Connection – accounting seems to naturally lend itself to numbers, paper and mental thinking. That’s not what we’re about here. People come first. There are a lot of psychological components to people’s finances which include past experiences, past conditioning, and all the related feelings and emotions that go with it. There is no right or wrong, no good or bad and, we are here to help our clients navigate to be somewhere right in the middle. It’s not about the numbers, it’s about the people and connecting on a personal level.
